“Woah, moving a bit fast aren’t we? You should take me out to dinner first, handsome.”
— Jeremy Lockthorn
Jeremy Lockthorn is a self-taught inventor and key resistance member, picking up many crucial skills after having to fend for himself from a very young age following the Seven Hour War.
During a family vacation to Eastern Europe, Jeremy and his family stayed in a hotel in what would later become City 17. Not long after the Seven Hour War began, a tremor caused the hotel to collapse, killing everyone inside. Jeremy had made it out along with several other people, but his parents and older sister didn’t make it.
After this incident, he would spend most of his time away from other people unless absolutely necessary. The death of his family led to him believing that he was a ‘bad luck charm’, and that he would only get everyone around him killed. The only time he willingly interacted with others was when he needed to stock up on supplies. Other than this, he was practically on the run, living in small hideouts he found and running away as soon as he thought he’d be discovered. He became a bit more lax with this as he got older, opting to stay in the one hideout for up to a month before moving again. He never left City 17, and as he was never registered on the human index, he was never forcefully relocated.

Having spent much time around his father’s workshop as a child, Jeremy picked up many useful skills that would allow him to invent contraptions and equipment to ensure his survival. He became especially proficient in recycling Combine technology to use in his own creations. He would often scavenge this technology off of dead Combine Soldiers or Civil Protection officers, as well as broken or deactivated manhacks and hopper mines.
Jeremy is a fan-created character for a hypothetical set of mods, comics, and animations under the overarching title ‘Half-Life: Anticharm’. His story primarily takes place before and during Half-Life 2 and its episodes, and partially ties in to the plot of Portal 2.
Jeremy and Ismay were extremely close, more so with each other than with their parents, who they still had good relationships with. They would very rarely argue, and when they did Ismay would always take Jeremy to the local corner store for some snacks to make both of them feel better. Jeremy, guilt-ridden after surviving the hotel’s collapse, was convinced that had Ismay survived, she would’ve blamed him for the death of their parents. This was far from the case however, as she loved him for her entire life, and only wanted the best for her little brother. Even in her final moments, fully aware of the inevitability of her situation, she just wanted him to survive.
First met when Barney rescued Jeremy after a Civil Protection raid that left him close to death. From the moment Jeremy laid eyes on Barney, he was head over heels for him, and later the two formed a close romantic bond that would remain unbroken. They also worked closely together in their work for the Resistance, Jeremy mainly helping from the sidelines, such as when he altered Barney’s Civil Protection uniform in order to keep in contact with him to ensure his safety. Barney helped Jeremy through a lot of emotional turmoil (both intentionally and by simply being there), and although he was better at dealing with his issues, Jeremy was always there when he needed him.
Dr. Kleiner, despite not professionally practicing in medicine, was instrumental in Jeremy’s recovery on multiple occasions. The first being after the raid, followed by the loss of his eye, and later the necessary amputation of both of his legs. As well as this, Kleiner taught Jeremy the basics of teleportation, as he helped fix the teleporter after a few unsuccessful tests and after it was broken by Lamarr when Gordon Freeman was to be teleported to Black Mesa East. When the Uprising began, Jeremy assisted in moving Kleiner out of his lab and to White Forest. The two of them became rather good friends over the course of their time together.
